About the programme
The Nursery Care programme is designed for individuals who are passionate about working with infants and toddlers in daycare and early learning environments. This course provides comprehensive training in child development, health and hygiene, safety practices, nutrition, and age-appropriate play. Students will learn how to create nurturing, structured environments that support the physical, emotional, and cognitive growth of young children. Learning Outcomes
- To provide individuals with the support and knowledge to effectively aid in the development of children throughout their developmental stages.
- To provide observation and interpretation skills required to sensitively handle domestically abused children.
- To reiterate the importance of maintaining a safe environment for children that is conducive to language and cognitive development.
- To equip participants with entrepreneurial techniques to start private daycare services.
Course Outline
- Care for children’s physical needs.
- Apply basic first aid.
- Support the rights and safety of children within duty care requirements.
- Promote children’s emotional, sensory and motor development.
- Facilitate children’s language and cognitive development.
- Foster and enhance children’s social development.
- Assist children with medication.
- Facilitate the appropriate management of children’s behaviour.
- Caring for babies and children.
- Facilitate children’s creative expression through art, music and movement.
- Provide support for children affected by domestic and family violence.
Assessment
Instructional Approaches
This course will involve a mix of lectures and discussions and practical. To benefit fully, students’ participation in all aspects of the course is required. Students must:

- Contribute to all discussions
Pre-requisites
Applicants must have at least three (3) CSEC passes, including English Language, or equivalent qualifications. Mature applicants without formal qualifications may be considered based on relevant work experience.
