About the programme
This course is designed to provide candidates with an understanding of the main
concepts of Information Technology. By the end of this course, the candidate should
understand the following:
- The make-up of a personal computer in terms of hardware and software and understand the concepts of Information Technology (IT).
- How information networks are used within computing.
- Be aware of the uses of computer-based software applications in everyday life.
- Appreciate health and safety issues as well as environmental factors involved in using computers.
- Be aware of some of the important security and legal issues associated with using computers.
Course Outline
Assessment
Assessment of the course is determined by course work which accounts for 40% of the overall grade. As well as the final written examination which accounts for 60%.
Instructional Approach
This course will involve a mix of lectures, discussions and presentations. To benefit fully, a student’s participation in all aspects of the course is required.
Students must:
- Attend all lectures
- Prepare for lectures
- Contribute to all discussions
Pre-requisites
Applicants must have at least three (3) CSEC passes, including English Language, or equivalent qualifications. Mature applicants without formal qualifications may be considered based on relevant work experience.
