Introduction to Human Resources
About the programme
This introductory course provides a comprehensive overview of Human Resource Management. Students will explore the roles and responsibilities of HR professionals, including recruitment, onboarding, employee development, and compliance with labour laws. Through real-world scenarios and practical applications, participants will gain insights into managing people effectively within an organization and understand how HR supports both employees and business goals.
Learning Outcomes
By the end of this course, participants will:
- Understand HR fundamentals for small business success.
- Create an HR plan tailored to their business.
- Develop practical skills in recruitment, onboarding, compensation planning, and workplace management.
- Learn the essentials of employment law, workplace safety, and conflict resolution.
Course Outline
Assessment
Assessment of the course is determined by course work which accounts for 40% of the overall grade. As well as the final written examination which accounts for 60%.
Instructional Approaches
This course will involve a mix of lectures and discussions and practical. To benefit fully, students’ participation in all aspects of the course is required. Students must:

- Contribute to all discussions
Pre-requisites
Applicants must have at least three (3) CSEC passes, including English Language, or equivalent qualifications. Mature applicants without formal qualifications may be considered based on relevant work experience.
