CVQs

The Caribbean Vocational Qualification (CVQ) is a competency based certification approved by the Heads of Government of all CARICOM member states. It provides a structured pathway for individuals to gain recognised and portable qualifications through Competency Based Education and Training (CBET).

What is Competency-Based Education and Training (CBET)?

CBET focuses on assessing learners based on their ability to perform specific tasks and demonstrate competencies in real-world scenarios. This approach values practical experience, allowing individuals to leverage their prior knowledge and work experience as evidence of their skills. CBET is designed to be flexible, accommodating various learning styles and paces, ensuring that learners acquire the necessary skills and knowledge for effective job performance.

Achieving a CVQ

To attain a CVQ, candidates must undergo a thorough assessment process. This involves demonstrating competence in all prescribed modules of study, which are derived from industry developed occupational standards. These standards ensure that the qualifications are aligned with regional workforce needs and are recognised across member states.

Assessments are conducted by trained and certified assessors appointed by the Technical Vocational Educational Training (TVET) Council of Barbados. These assessors evaluate candidates’ performance against specific occupational standards, ensuring consistency and fairness in the certification process.
