Cosmetology
About the programme
This course is designed to provide students with the required knowledge and skills to function as a professional cosmetologist in a very competitive Beauty Industry. Students will be trained in the following disciplines: hair care, make-up application, skin care, waxing and nail technology and also taught the importance of great customer service and professionalism. On successful completion of the programme, students will have the opportunity to be assessed for the Caribbean Vocational Qualification offered through the TVET council. This qualification is recognized regionally and would be a great asset to professional and personal development.
Objectives
Upon successful completion of this course students will have gained the knowledge necessary to:
- Perform nail care, hair, make up, waxing and facial services.
- Educate clients and perform efficient evaluations and consultation sessions.
- Recognize contraindications and take appropriate steps to avoid harm to clients.
- Adhere to Occupational Safety and Health Standards.
- Starting a business in the beauty industry.

Course Outline
Assessment
Assessment of the course is determined by course work which accounts for 40% of the overall grade. As well as the final written examination which accounts for 60%.

Instructional Approach
This course will involve a mix of lectures, discussions and presentations. To benefit fully, a student’s participation in all aspects of the course is required.

Pre-requisites
Applicants must have at least three (3) CSEC passes, including English Language, or equivalent qualifications. Mature applicants without formal qualifications may be considered based on relevant work experience.
